Universidad de los Andes was founded in 1948. Activities at Uniandes have always been aimed at achieving excellence. Uniandes was included in the position number 335 among the best Universities in the world in the QS World University Rankings. It is also ranked as a top university in Latin America, occupying the sixth place in the subcontinent according to the QS Latin America Rankings classification. Universidad de los Andes is the only Colombian private university with national accreditation for nine years, since 2005. Additionally, Uniandes has received international accreditations, such as the one granted to the Faculty of Engineering in 2012 by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and the Triple Accreditation granted to the Faculty of Administration by the European Foundation for Management Development (EQUIIS), the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The infrastructure covers 160.000 square meters approximately and includes classrooms, laboratories, library and other services for the students. Following its tradition, Uniandes strives to hire teachers with the highest academic standards. Currently, there are 587 full-time professors, 60% of the faculty holds doctoral degrees. Furthermore, the University has approximately 12.500 undergraduate students, 2.500 in master degree programs and 350 in PhD programs.

There are 128 research groups categorized/ranked by Colciencias (Colombia´s Administrative Department of Science, Technology and Innovation). 18 of these 128 groups, have been classified as A1 (in 2009, only eight groups were ranked in this group).

International Courses:

During the months of June and July, professors from prestigious international universities visit the university to participate in the International Summer School organized by each faculty, where students have the opportunity to access a wide range of courses in different subjects. Most of the courses of the International Summer School are taught in English and by teachers with doctoral degree. Students have free access to study English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Mandarin, and Japanese.
